To calculate plywood from square footage, first multiply the project length by its width. This gives the total project area.
A standard 4 ft × 8 ft plywood sheet covers exactly 32 square feet. Divide the total project area by 32 when using standard 4 × 8 sheets.
For example, 200 square feet requires 6.25 sheets before waste. With a 10% waste allowance, the result becomes 6.88 sheets, so you would plan for 7 full sheets.
Waste is useful for cuts, damaged edges, mistakes and pieces that cannot be reused. More complicated layouts may require a higher allowance than simple rectangular coverage.

How to calculate how much plywood you need
First measure the total rectangular surface that will be covered and calculate its area.
Next calculate the area of one plywood sheet. For a standard 4 × 8 sheet, that is 32 square feet.
Divide project area by sheet area, apply your waste percentage and round up to the next whole sheet.
This simple area method works well for preliminary material planning. Final sheet usage can differ because real layouts create off-cuts and seams.
